IT WAS a familiar story for bottom of the table Watchet Town last Saturday as they went down 3-0 at home to Chard Town in the Premier Division of the Uhlsport Somerset County League.

After holding mid-table Chard for much of the first half and having chances of their own, two goals as the interval approached put the visitors in the ascendancy.

Playing into a strong wind first the Red & Blacks gave a hard-working account of themselves in the opening period. Jack Harding came off his line to make a good save and another clear shooting chance was sent off-target but generally the home side were making life difficult for their opponents.

They began to threaten themselves with Billy Jones a constant menace to the big Chard defenders and he screwed one shot across the face of goal with strike partner Todd Willis just unable to reach it. Jones then forced a full length save from a left footed ground shot before miscuing in the goalmouth following a corner.

The visitors moved ahead when their influential midfield captain Manley found space inside the area to curl his shot into the far corner of the net. Deep into stoppage time Watchet failed to clear their lines from a cross on the edge of the area and centre back Hastings produced a carbon copy finish into the same corner via keeper Harding's fingertips.

Watchet continued to compete after the break without seriously looking like scoring and midway through, a defensive slip let Clapp in to rifle in a third goal and ensure that Chard would complete the double over the Red & Blacks.
