UHLSPORT Somerset County Football League club Minehead have signed local goalkeeper Carl Page.
He has been brought in to replace Greg Turner who left the first division club at the end of last season.
"He will be our number one goalkeeper," Minehead boss Lee Todd confirmed this week.
Todd has already strengthened his squad with four new signings - Luke Badcock, Mikey Graddon, Cullum Bruford and Nathan Collins, all from Taunton Saturday League neighbours Alcombe Rovers.
Meanwhile, Minehead were in action in a friendly at home to Staplegrove on Monday in a rearranged game which should have been played on Wednesday - the same evening as England’s World Cup semi-final against Argentina.
Minehead eventually lost 3-2 to the Grove after leading twice with goals by Collins, who put them 1-0 up and 2-1 up. Minehead also missed a penalty while Grove were also awarded a spot-kick which enabled them to draw level at 2-2.
“The result was not really important although it is always nice to win any game,” said Todd. “It was the performance of the players which mattered - and I was pleased with the way we played. They did what I asked of them.
“They played the way we wanted them to play - and they enjoyed it. It was a good workout for both sides.”
Minehead were due to play at home to Combe Martin last Saturday but their opponents could not raise a side. Todd organised an 'in-house' game instead.
Minehead continue their build-up to the new season with a home game against a Minehead Legends XI on Saturday, July 18, with a 3p.m. kick-off.
They are due to play away to North Devon side Ilfracombe Town in another warm-up match next Tuesday, with a 7.30p.m. kick-off.
