ALCOMBE Rovers showed real grit and determination as skipper Mike Graddon struck a dramatic 90th-minute equaliser to earn a 3–3 draw away at Old Inn in Division One of the Taunton & District Saturday Football League.
Early pressure by Rovers paid off on 20 minutes when Nathan Collins pounced on a goalkeeper error to fire the visitors ahead. Despite their bright start, Alcombe failed to make their dominance count and were punished just before the interval. A scrappy goal-line scramble saw the hosts bundle the ball home to level at 1–1, leaving Rovers frustrated after wasting a series of first-half opportunities.
Old Inn grew in confidence after the restart and turned the game around with two quick goals — a clinical one-on-one finish on 55 minutes and a decent header midway through the half that made it 3–1.Facing an uphill battle, Alcombe dug deep. Collins struck again on 80 minutes to give his side hope, finishing coolly to notch his second of the match.
The visitors continued to pour forward in search of an equaliser, and their persistence was rewarded right at the death when captain Graddon stepped up with a stunning finish to make it 3–3.
Player-manager Brian Hall hailed his team’s fighting spirit after the game: “We should’ve been out of sight in the first half, but credit to the lads — they never gave up. The character they showed to come back from 3–1 down says everything about this group.”
The result extends Rovers’ unbeaten streak and highlights their resilience, though they’ll know sharper finishing could have turned one point into three.
