PORLOCK put up a spirited display before losing 3-1 away to Ashton in Division Two of the Somerset Women’s Football League.

Porlock started with confidence, dominating early possession. Kayleigh was a constant threat down the right wing, exploiting space and delivering dangerous balls into the box. On the defensive front, Amber, Lauren, Kirsty, and Rhian worked robustly to nullify Ashton’s quick and youthful striker.

After early exchanges, Ashton managed to break the deadlock with a clinical finish into the bottom corner 1 on 1 with the keeper. However, Porlock responded immediately: within 30 seconds, Kez smashed a powerful shot from outside the box into the back of the net, pulling the score level at 1–1.

The hot and muggy weather began to take its toll, as players visibly struggled to catch their breath. Just before halftime, frustration surged — Kayleigh was taken down inside the penalty area, but the referee denied Porlock’s penalty appeals.

At the start of the second half, Porlock introduced tactical adjustments by adding an extra central holding midfielder, aiming to regain midfield dominance. Despite this, Ashton began to exploit the conditions, gaining ascendancy in the middle of the park. Roughly 15 minutes into the half, a late tackle in the box awarded Ashton a penalty. Their composed striker stepped up and calmly found the net.

Porlock’s goalkeeper Hannah made three fine saves to keep her side in contention. But Ashton were not deterred; they regained possession outside the box and struck once more, extending their lead to 3–1.

In the final stages, Porlock rallied. A smart, over-the-top assist from Liz put Aimee through on goal but despite her best effort, she could only place it wide.

Porlock Ladies Player of the Match: Hannah — for her series of heroic saves. "Donkey of the Day": Amber — for “many reasons,” though it’s clear it’s meant in good spirits.
