MINEHEAD picked up their first victory of the season after a hard fought 5-3 home win against North Curry in Division One of the Under 15 section in the Taunton & District Youth Football League .
The home side took an early lead when Aaron Parker tucked away a low cross. Shortly afterwards the lead was doubled when Reggie High’s effort was bundled in to the goal by a North Curry defender.
The visitors pulled one back on 10 minutes following a mistake in the Minehead defence and three minutes later another North Curry through ball saw them equalise. The visitors continued to threaten and they again found the back of the net to make it 2-3.
Within a minute of the re-start Minehead replied. A good run by Reggie High resulted in a heavy challenge in the box, which the ref felt deserved a penalty. Casey Paxton made no mistake with the spot kick making it 3-3.
Both sides had their scoring chances in the remainder of the half but at the break the score remained unchanged 3-3 which was a fair reflection of the play.
Minehead went back in front following a good run down the left, Aaron Parker sending a shot in to the top right corner.
The hosts had their tails up and were looking the better side again. The following 10 minutes produced some good chances for Minehead but they were unable to make them count.
A fine solo effort from Ollie Pravato went just wide on 62 minutes and Minehead were looking increasingly likely to get the goal that might put the game to bed.
As the minutes ticked away any nerves were put to bed in the 77th minute when Sam Taylor-Pitkin played a long ball in to the North Curry box, where the waiting Reggie High got his deserved goal, making it 5-3.
