MINEHEAD Under 13 Girls made the long journey to Shepton Mallet to play last season’s Somerset North Division champions and came away with another fine victory to keep their 100 per cent league record.
The visitors started brightly, taking the lead in just the third minute after a well followed up effort found the back of the net to make it 1-0. Minehead continued to press forward, creating several chances, with a couple of unlucky efforts drifting just wide of the post.
Shepton showcased their footballing quality, moving the ball confidently and testing Minehead’s defence on several occasions.
However, the visitors’ back three stood firm, and their goalkeeper produced a series of impressive saves to keep Shepton at bay.
Despite pressure, Minehead remained threatening on the counter, testing their defence and forcing several corners. Both sides enjoyed spells of dominance, and as the whistle blew for half-time, the match was finely poised at 1-0 to the visitors.
The second half began with Shepton pushing hard for an equaliser, sending several shots wide, but Minehead’s goalkeeper remained solid, commanding her area and sweeping up any danger.
Minehead's midfield worked tirelessly, providing many attacking opportunities and producing some quality crosses in front of the goal but unfortunately couldnot find the back of the net.
With both teams pressing for control, it was in the final ten minutes that Minehead struck again. A superb finish doubled the lead to 2-0 and gave the visitors breathing space.
Then, in the dying seconds, Minehead’s striker broke through, one-on-one with the keeper and coolly slotted home to seal the victory.
The defence stayed composed until the final whistle, securing a clean sheet and a well-deserved 3-0 win and maintain Minehead Under 13 Girls’ perfect start to the season.
