MINEHEAD welcomed Watchet Town for what was an historic moment for the female game in West Somerset- the first football derby between the clubs.
The day belonged to the Blues, who pulled off a resounding 19-0 victory in front of a fantastic crowd.
Lots of Minehead’s goals were of a similar nature, with great link-play in and around the busy Watchet box. The first half ended 9-0 to the hosts, with hat-tricks for both Mabel and Erin, a stunning brace from the impressive Courtney, and yet another fine strike from Jaz.
Heading into the second half, Minehead did not let up and remained professional with their approach to proceedings, with the midfield of Lilly and Courtney running things and the relentless attackers ambitious to add to Minehead’s tally.
There were moments for Watchet, and the rotating backline of Darcy, Alana, Honey, and Kianna were solid throughout, although one counter-attack led to a moment that keeper Maddison had to intervene .
As the game went on, Evie completed her hat-trick before adding another. Erin added a brace, taking her tally for the season to 14. Emeral got a deserved goal for her persistence, and Mabel bagged a second-half hat-trick to conclude the scoring.
This display from the Blues was about enjoying the occasion and implementing what is being worked on in training. The team achieved their ambitions with plenty of great goals, fine football, and a gracious attitude to proceedings.
Minehead now face Highburn in a top-of-the-table clash.
Manager Dan Haran said: “ On behalf of the team and club, I’d like to thank everyone for their support. This particular game is everything we want as a club; aA real great community feel utilising the positive and progressive nature of the female game. A special mention as well to the team! A fantastic start to senior football!”
