MINEHEAD Reserves are through to the second round of the Taunton & District Saturday Football League’s Rowbarton Charity Cup after a 2-0 win over new boys Taunton Town Under 23s at Bridgwater.

Minehead were expecting a tough game which it proved to be, against a young side who wanted to play football. The first half saw quite a few chances for both sides with the more clear-cut ones falling to the Blues.

Both sides found keepers in good form. Tomasz Kubaczewski continued where he left off in the last game with a well marshalled defence in front of him of Rob Vickers, Andy Gubb, Oli Jones and Myles Campbell-Farmer.

At the other end good chances came and went to Haiden Griffiths, Jones and Scott Kivell but it was midfielder Oli Reaney whose dancing feet allowed him to open the scoring for Minehead. Dan Vickers, Josh Bruford and Torren Eldridge completed the Blues midfield.

Half time saw four changes for Minehead with the introduction of Curly Neild, Hayden Phippen, Riley Pope and Harvey Wright returning after six weeks out with injury. The changes were largely seamless but the Taunton keeper still continued to make things difficult for the Minehead forwards.

Although Taunton pushed forward Minehead continued to defend well and it was they who put the result to bed with 15 minutes to go when a speculative long range shot from Jones crept into the bottom corner with some help from the otherwise splendid keeper.

The second round will see Minehead play the winners of Nether Stowey or Racehorse Rovers Reserves. Man of the match: Oli Jones & Myles Campbell-Farmer.
