MINEHEAD Reserves. who included several Colts’ players, were beaten 2-1 away to Combe St Nicholas in a football friendly.

It turned out to be a useful exercise for both clubs played in good spirit. With young Khalib Scheepers in goal and a strong defence of Charlie Disney, Alfie Cotterell, Haydn Phippen and Myles Campbell- Farmer in front of him Combe were kept at distance for the majority of the half.

Josh Bruford, playing in a central midfield role with Harvey Wright and Oli Reaney, were bossing the midfield and Lyam Scheepers being disciplined in front of the back four it allowed them to push forward.

It was from one such play that a majestic pass from Wright found striker Haiden Griffiths with a lot still to do but a clever shot from range went over the keeper, giving him no chance.

With only two substitutes, last week’s hero Jani Jasielczuk was soon on the field for the injured Griffiths but despite the pressure Minehead were a bit naive pushing forward and allowed Combe to break away and equalise with a long range lob over the advancing Scheepers in goal.

The second half saw Luke Batts providing energy to the side along with Danny Lynam but despite a double save from Scheepers the game was fairly level throughout the second half until with 15 minutes to go a rebound fell to a Combe striker who finished well despite Scheepers best effort.

This was aA good run out for Minehead with a team that is likely to look different come September. Man of the match. Josh Bruford.
