MINEHEAD welcomed Huish for a long-overdue home game in DivisionThree South of the Somerset Women’s Football League.

With both teams sitting on nine points so far this season, it made for an intriguing encounter in front of the big home support. The game kicked off, and within minutes, Minehead took the lead thanks to skipper Erin after fine work from Courtney in the build-up.

The script for the match was set as Minehead were executing the gameplan impeccably, which was resulting in goal after goal! Adding to Minehead’s tally was Mabel at the double, linking up brilliantly with her strike partner Emeral. Mabel’s intricate footwork proved effective as within 15 minutes, Minehead had a 3-0 lead.

The Blues’ ambition to score didn’t slow down with Erin getting her brace shortly after. Then, in any early game tussle for goals between Erin and Mabel, it was the latter who scored her hat-trick first again, displaying her pace and power. At the heart of these moves in build-up was Jaz and Emeral, who were linking almost telepathically on the left. The front line were dominating proceedings, but playing such an aggressive formation did lead to a rare counter-attack for Huish, which brought out a fantastic save by keeper Maddison diving to her right. A big applause for the keeper as Minehead reset and the status quo quickly resumed with Erin now also completing her hat-trick with yet another fine finish following a clever-looking pass from Evie.

As the half-time whistle approached, Minehead kept hunting for more goals. The Blues’ seventh came from yet another worldie from Jaz, followed by a clever finish into the top corner from Emeral in a busy box to make it eight at the break!

As the second half started, the pattern of play notably changed. Huish were now in a far more defensive shape and were understandably taking the sting out of the game as much as they could. More patience was required from Minehead, but the prolific front line weren’t in the business of taking their foot off the pedal. Jaz added her second before Erin got her 4th.

At 10-0, Minehead would’ve been forgiven for dipping in focus, but it never came to fruition. The rotating back line of Kianna, Bonita, Alana, and Darcy involved very little but were always on hand to start build-up and keep Huish penned in their half. This, alongside the midfield duo of Courtney and the returning Lilly, who was adding an incredible balance to central areas.

Those in attendance were being treated to a footballing performance from Minehead that warranted the high praise they were getting, and the team were determined to send the supporters home with yet another flurry of goals. First, Jaz completed her hat-trick in unusual fashion with a tap-in from 5 yards following great work from Emeral, who contributed an incredible 7 assists throughout. Then, a killer pass from Darcy on her home debut put Mabel through for her 4th.

There was then time for 2 more goals, Courtney got her first goal for the club from the spot, then Erin capped off a 5-star performance for Minehead with her 5th of the afternoon.

It was a resounding afternoon for The Blues in their second game at home in senior football.
