MINEHEAD AFC U13 Girls welcomed Chew Valley to their home ground Hare Park at Allerford in what turned out to be a thrilling contest in Division One of the county league - which was won 3-2 by the top of the table seasiders.
The opening stages saw both sides create chances as they settled into the game, but it was Chew Valley who struck first, taking the lead in the 20th minute.
Minehead responded well, and their equaliser came from a well delivered corner that was finished smartly. Not long after, they went ahead thanks to a composed strike from outside the box, which put them 2-1 up at half time.
After the break the match remained evenly balanced, with both sides showing a solid defence and limiting clear cut opportunities. However Chew Valley managed to find their way back into the match with a goal from a corner, making it 2-2.
Minehead showed great determination and their perseverance was rewarded when they regained the lead following a superb attacking move. The passage of play started with a driving run which looked to have ended with what appeared to be an over hit effort. However on the contrary the ball was whipped across goal and found its way into the far corner of the net, a slice of fortune, but a reward for their persistence.
The final minutes of the match were a tense affair as the visitors piled on pressure and forced several corners. However Minehead remained unmoved, stood firm and could not be beaten ,repelling every threat, and when the final whistle blew, there were cheers all round as the home side had secured a hard earned 3-2 victory and all three points.
Minehead Under 13 Girls are next in action on 4th October when they take part in the Somerset County Cup.
