MINEHEAD delivered a confident performance to come away with a 4-0 victory against Pen Mill in Division One of the Under 13 section in the Somerset Girls Football League.
The game began at a lively pace, with both sides settling quickly and creating early opportunities. Minehead made the breakthrough in the 15th minute, finding the net from close range inside the box to take the lead.
The visitors continued to build momentum, with Minehead’s forwards working tirelessly to press high and win the ball back up the pitch. Their efforts soon paid off as the West Somerset side doubled their advantage. A loose ball fell kindly to a midfielder on the edge of the area, who struck cleanly to make it 2-0 heading into half time.
Pen Mill came out strongly after the break, increasing their intensity and pushing Minehead back into their own half. However, the visitors’ back three, supported by a strong and reliable goalkeeper, stood firm to deny any clear chances.
Minehead extended their lead following a sharp interception from a goal kick, with their alert striker reacting quickest to capitalise and make it 3-0.
The visitors’ midfield worked tirelessly throughout, covering huge distances and battling for every ball. Their discipline and work rate in both attack and defence helped maintain control of the game. Out wide, Minehead’s wingers added real pace and width, stretching the opposition and creating space in dangerous areas.
These combined efforts were rewarded once again as a well weighted through ball released the striker, who calmly finished with her left foot to seal an impressive 4-0 victory.
With Minehead sitting second in Division One and just two games remaining, the season is building towards an exciting conclusion for the Blues who trail leaders Wellington Wildcats by five points with a game in hand.
