MINEHEAD Under 13s hosted Wellington Wildcats in a thrilling top-of-the-table clash in Division One of the Under 13 section in the Somerset Girls League .

When the sides met the previous week it was undefeated Wellington who ran out the winners, but at the end of this game it was the hosts who, after a determined performance, were 1-0 winners.

Minehead started strongly and from the first whistle took control of the game, pressing hard creating early chances. Their relentless pressure paid off midway through the first half when Wellington turned the ball into their own net after a dangerous Minehead attack.

The home side continued to threaten testing the Wellington keeper and went into halftime leading 1-0.

Both teams came out after the interval determined to take the lead and claim the vital points. Wellington looked dangerous at times, finding a few breakthrough moments, but Minehead’s defence stood firm.

One of the standout moments came when a Wellington striker looked certain to score; the Minehead keeper was beaten initially but sprinted back to clear the ball right on the line. Save of the season! The keeper later pulled off several crucial saves to protect her clean sheet.

Defensively, it was a rock-solid team performance. The back line threw their bodies on the line to block shots and stayed composed under pressure, standing firm against Wellington’s attack and keeping calm in possession.

In attack, Minehead looked sharp and creative, carrying the ball forward confidently and threading clever passes to open up space. The forwards worked tirelessly up front against tight marking from Wellington’s defence.

This was an amazing team performance from start to finish. Every player gave everything for each other, showing heart, teamwork, and resilience.

This was a well-deserved win and a big statement from Minehead Girls in this top-of-the-table clash, which was the perfect response after the previous result!
