MINEHEAD will be looking for a return to action after a blank Saturday when they play at home to Glastonbury in the first division of the Uhlsport Somerset County Football League this weekend (Sat, 3p.m.).
Minehead should have played at home against big spending Combe St Nicholas in a league match at Irnham Road on Saturday, January 24, but the game was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.
“We called it off on Friday night - the pitch was unplayable,” said Minehead’s manager Lee Todd. “I’ve not seen it in that state for a long time.”
Todd has named a full strength squad for the match against Glastonbury which includes the return of striker Guy Burns, defender Toby Morris and utility player Finn Haran.
Minehead go into the game in eighth place, having played more games than teams around them, while Glastonbury are third from bottom, having won only four of their 18 fixtures and in the relegation zone.
Meanwhile, Todd admits he is “still looking to bring in players but it is particularly difficult at this time of the season.”
Neighbours Watchet Town also found themselves without a match on Saturday, January 24, after their home fixture against fellow strugglers Worle in the Premier Division was also a victim of the bad weather.
“It’s the worst I’ve seen the pitch looking for a few seasons,” said Watchet boss Nick Sully. “In fact, it is the first game we have called off at the Memorial Ground for some time.”
“It is also the first time we have managed to get two squads of 13 or 14 players for our two matches for a long while. It is rather symptomatic of our season,“ he said.
Watchet, who are bottom of the Premier Division, find themselves without a fixture this coming weekend.
