MINEHEAD’S football manager Craig Carr still believes his side can finish in a top-six position in the first division of the Uhlsport Somerset County Football League this season.

Minehead have slipped to tenth in the division but still have six more matches to play. They have not played a full game for three weeks because their last match a fortnight ago against Keynsham Town Reserves at home was abandoned in the second half after goalkeeper Michael Parker broke his leg in two places - and also his ankle.

“Mike’s a fit lad - he’s a personal trainer - and I’m sure he will play again some time,” said Carr.

With another of their keepers Keiran Wilkins unavailable, Minehead have called up Nathan Sheehan to play in goal for the away game at Wrington Redhill, who are lying fourth, on Saturday, April 12.

Minehead, however, will go into the game without five other members of their first team squad - Sam Heath, Matt True, Rob Vickers, Tony Morris and Martin Phillips.

“Even without these players we should be able to field a strong side,” said Carr. “I still feel a top-six place is achievable. If we can, I think we will have had a good season.

“Promotion this season was never the main aim. I have been trying to strengthen the squad with next season in mind.”

Meanwhile, Watchet Town have completed their fixtures in the Premier Division and will have to wait to see if they have avoided relegation.

They are fourth from bottom but while Timsbury United and Bishop Sutton will definitely be relegated Worle could move above Watchet if they win their last two matches which are both away.

Worle could win their match at Timsbury but are unlikely to be successful at Nailsea.
