MINEHEAD Blues were held to a 2-2 away draw by Spaxton in Division Two of the Under 12 section of the Taunton & District Youth Football League.

Minehead started the match confidently, moving the ball well through the midfield and dominating play on what was a very slippery pitch.

In the 20th minute Minehead’s first goal came from a passage of play up the right wing, leading to a cross which found midfielder George who calmly slotted the ball in the back of the net for his first goal of this season. Shortly after, a second Minehead goal came from a deflection from a corner, with the ball falling to defender Reuben half way between the penalty area and the half way line. As he struck the ball he slipped over, with the ball going high into the air, swirling around in the blustery wind, and going right over the goalie’s head - a possible contender for goal of the season.

Leading by two goals to nil going into the second half, Minehead came under heavy pressure with Spaxton bringing the score back to 2-1 in the 47th minute. This swung the momentum into Spaxton’s favour and despite the best efforts of Minehead they couldn’t prevent the second Spaxton goal bringing the score to 2 all.

In particular, the efforts of Minehead midfielder Finley, who one minute would be back defending and then seconds later leading an attack at the other end of the field. In the closing minutes Minehead had some good chances, with forward Henry and midfielder George both having on target shots only for them to be saved by the Spaxton goalie.

A mention also for Karter, playing his first match with the Blues and having a solid performance out on the left wing. Minehead.Parents player of the match: Finley; Coaches player of the match: Newcomer Karter.
