ON AN extremely windy afternoon, Alcombe Rovers gained a hard-fought 4–2 home victory over Middlezoy Rovers in the first division of the Taunton Saturday League.

Alcombe pressed high and created several early openings, as Nathan Collins and Cam Thompson both went close. Their attacking intent was rewarded after just five minutes when Collins coolly converted from the penalty spot to make it 1–0.

Despite continued pressure, Alcombe failed to take further chances, and Middlezoy capitalised in the 15th minute with an equaliser after the home side struggled to retain possession. The game became high tempo, with tensions rising — Cullen Bruford fortunate to escape with only a yellow card for a late challenge

Rovers soon regained the lead, however, in unusual fashion when a goalmouth scramble saw the ball ricochet off every part of Mike Graddon’s body and into the net, giving Alcombe a 2–1 lead at the break.

Throughout the first half, Alcombe’s back four of Graddon, Winters, Eldridge, and Disney stood firm, making it difficult for Middlezoy’s attack to create clear chances.

At half-time, tactical changes saw youngsters Luke Hill and Cullen Bruford replaced by Sam Harley and Adam Barker. The adjustments gave Rovers greater control, with Harley going close and Barker causing problems with his direct running. Shortly after the restart, Mike Graddon made way for Lowell Beanie, who impressed with a composed and energetic display at the back, helping Rovers maintain their defensive shape

.Middlezoy struck back again, levelling at 2–2 after a defensive mix-up. Player-manager Brian Hall entered the fray and nearly scored with a header moments later.

From the resulting corner, Harley’s delivery found Beau Winters, who made amends for his earlier error by smashing home to restore the lead. And it was Nathan Collins who had the final say, calmly slotting home his second to seal a 4–2 win.
