EXMOOR Rangers have won the second division title and their first-ever championship in 52 years in the Britannia Lanes Taunton Saturday League - after thrashing third-placed Middlezoy 8-0 at home.
Exmoor dominated from the start as they looked dangerous from the get go, creating chance after chance but just couldn’t put it in the back of the net early on.
However, with 15 minutes on the clock and some sloppy defending from the Middlezoy defence, Josh Elston won the ball and played a dangerous pass into top goal scorer Adam Barker who smashed it into the top right corner.
It didn’t take long for Exmoor to get a second, shortly after Aaron Scott had pressed the Middlezoy Defence causing them to make yet another mistake, which Adam Jefferies took the ball around the keeper to calming slot it into the net- his 20th goal of the season.
With ten minutes left to play until halftime, a goal kick from the Middlezoy keeper ended straight to Josh Elston’s head who cushioned it to Jack Campbell-Farmer who placed it neatly in the back of the net.
Exmoor took a three goal lead at the break. However they could’ve had many more as Middlezoy looked tired and exposed in the first half.
It didn’t take long for Josh Elston to get inon the action as a deep cross found The Great Adam Jefferies, who’d put it on a plate for Elston to nicely finish pass the goal keeper.
Middlezoy tried to make a break but were stopped in their tracks by Jack Farmer who won the ball and whipped a deep cross into Aaron Scott, who smashed it past the keeper.
Middlezoy looked down and out at this point, as Liam Shopland and Adam Smith looked to bring fresh legs on to finish this game and get their first title. Jack Campbell-Farmer made way for Danny Lyham, Ben Williams for Todd Willis and Sam Cook for George Barnfield.
They made an instant impact which saw a great bit of football from Exmoor, for Adam Jefferies to set up Elston for his second of the game. Middlezoy looked like they had given up as the game was truly gone. They made yet another mistake which ended up to Barker outside the 18-yard box who expertly finished it into the top corner to make it 7-0.
At this point Exmoor won their first corner of the match which ended up coming off a defender only for Aaron Scott to put the cherry on top with another great finish for his second of the game.
Exmoor ended up winning with ease to secure their first ever title with still one game to go.
So far they have scored 110 goals in all competitions and concededg 24.
Manager Liam Shopland said: "I want to say how proud I am of the boys, not only today but the whole season. When I first took over the club four years ago, I would of never thought we would win the title. But I couldn’t do it without the players I have today and my assistant Adam Smith, we have been brilliant and we deserve it. Thanks to everyone who came and watched on Saturday. It was great to have all your support”.
This weekend Exmoor look to take on Minehead Colts in their last league game.
