MINEHEAD Cycling Club members have been in action over the past weekend.
The MTB group were out on Saturday on the Quantocks, reporting that it was a bit wet, muddy and slippery. Some brave road riders were out too, a modest 25 mile loop was enough. The Friday night MTB peloton had the best of the weekend, riding on almost dry North Hill.
“A mud slog” was how Round 6 of the South West Cyclo-cross was described by riders. The Velopark at Torbay was also the SW regional championships so it was an important race day.
Louise Crossman (V60 2nd) did not quite manage to defend her title but while she couldn’t catch the winner was well clear of her other challengers, neatly negotiating the tricky, slippery, off camber sections.
Susanah Rook (J 3rd), made good use of her new bike, showing her father, Tim Rook (V50 17th) how it’s done!
David Bray (V60 5th) rode well but was up against fast opposition which included a former world champion.
David said: “It was dry overhead but the ground was very wet in places, that’s the English Riviera for you!”
Scott Ellwood (V40 7th) always seems to get the worst of the conditions. His was the last race of the day, the track had deteriorated into a mud fest by then and his opposition is younger and fast!
Scott said: “Much better than last time out, I had to stop a couple of times to unclog the bike but it was a good race.”
Club AGM Thursday February 12th at the Kildare Lodge. The main attraction will be Heather Bone telling members all about her Land’s End to John O’Groats ride.
There will also be a book exchange/sale organised by Bernie Mitchell.
Members are very welcome to bring their partners and /or family.
