MINEHEAD Cycling Club members were in action in round two of the South West Cyclocross series at Redruth last Sunday; the going was fast on a drying course, quite a contrast to the quagmires of recent seasons.
This obviously suited David Bray (V60 3rd) who was only beaten by a former world champion and last year's regional winner.
Louise Crossman continued her good form (V60 2nd), her last lap being her fastest. Stephen Crossman (V60 11th) could have gone better after being knocked off on the first lap.
David said: "I got the hole shot off the start and led most of that lap. I had to work hard to hang onto third, but very happy with my race result."
MCC's next open event is the club's Audax on Sunday, October 19. An Audax is a non-timed, non-competitive, road event using scenic quiet lanes. This one, "Ken's Autumn Colours", starts in Minehead from the Sainsbury Hall at 9.30am. The route is about 65 miles and includes Wheddon Cross, Tiverton and Wiveliscombe.
Organiser Richard Miles said: "A long but gentle climb up to Wheddon Cross in the Exmoor National Park is rewarded with an easy run most of the way down to our first control in Tiverton. Quiet lanes will take you to our second control in Wiveliscombe and then it's mostly plain sailing back to Minehead (just with a couple more hills on the homeward run to avoid the busy main road).
“All riders will be rewarded with the traditional Minehead cream tea at the finish. I can enter you on the day but would prefer if you pre-entered using the Audax UK website."
MCC have various organised rides for all abilities, both on and off road, through the week. More details can be found on the club website, we would be delighted for you to join us.
