MINEHEAD Barbarians will be looking to maintain their high-scoring record in home matches this season when they play Yatton in Counties Two Somerset today (Sat, 3p.m.).
The Babas have piled up 109 points without reply in their last two matches at The Tom Stewart Field in beating promoted Huish Tigers and Imperial.
Minehead began the season by beating Wells 42-17 - also at home. However, Minehead have not enjoyed the same kind of form on their travels, losing 48-0 at Avon and 36-7 at Taunton.
Yatton are currently bottom of the table, having suffered some big defeats already this season - both at home and away.
However, Babas' head coach Mick Orton will be warning his players against any kind of complacency. "In my book it's 15 men against 15," he said. "We will not be taking any notice of their position in the table. They will want to win just as much as we do.
"We intend to play as well as we possibly can and to get the right result. I think we must be doing the right thing because our crowds this season have been brilliant."
Minehead start the game having had an enforced two-week break along with all other teams in the division. They beat Huish Tigers 58-0 last time out with former head coach Jack Claydon snapping up four tries.
Minehead 2nd XV, fourth in Counties Four Somerset South, have no match until they play at home to Yatton 2nd XV next Saturday.
Meanwhile, Wiveliscombe's first team play away to second from bottom Bude in Counties One Western West today, chasing their first win of the 2023-24 season.
This is very much a winable game for Wiveliscombe because the Cornish side have won only one of their five matches and are only four points better off than their rivals.
Wiveliscombe 2nd XV are home to Cheddar Valley who are lying second from bottom in Counties Three South. Wivey are seventh.
