WIVELISCOMBE’S hopes of avoiding relegation from the second division of the Somerset Cricket League suffered a big blow when they lost by 72 runs at home to Weston super Mare
With only five matches left to play, bottom side Wiveliscombe are 62 points adrift of the next placed side West Monkton and 66 points behind third from bottom North Newton.
After being put into bat, Weston scored 219 in their 40 overs with J Neave scoring 75, D Mayo 94 and G Barnard 23 not out. L Clark, C Fleming and H Welch all took two wickets as the home side used eight bowlers.
T Welch was Wiveliscombe’s star batter, hitting 80 before being stumped, while S Denyer knocked 23. For Weston, M Gadsden took 3-12 and S Ramachandran 3-32.
At the other end of the table, Broadway & Horton have a one-point lead at the top after beating Ilton by 33 runs away. Broadway scored 223-7 with R Dubery hitting 82 not out, which included 13 fours.
Ilton were bowled out for 190 after a promising opening stand of 59, of which R Gower (47) made most of the runs.
