ASHBRITTLE gained a crushing 136-run home victory over champions Watchet in the first division of the West Somerset Cricket League.

It means Ashbrittle have moved up to join Watchet at the top of the table, both teams having 212 points and played the same number of matches.

Star of Ashbrittle’s big win was Luke Williams who scored a mighty 166 not out, which included 14 fours and 12 sixes in a whirlwind 92-minute knock. Steven Grant scored 38 and Ethan Charlton 21 not out while Martin Strong finished with figures of 2-78.

Watchet were always struggling with the bat after their first wicket went down on 89 runs. Paul Sparks (30) and Ryan Strong (20) gave the Seasiders a good start but Alastair Harrison was the only other batter to make runs, scoring 25.

Ashbrittle’s bowling attack was led by William Barrington who took 5-45 while Oliver White snapped up 4-40 as Watchet were bowled out in 31 overs.

Crowcombe missed out on a chance of going top when they went down by 51 runs away to Morebath.

Morebath, now up to fifth, scored 245-7 in their 40 overs and then bowled out the opposition for 194.

Bagborough bounced back from the previous week’s loss to Morebath to beat Over Stowey at home by a convincing nine wickets.

Stowey, put into bat, were all out for 137, unable to cope with the bowling of M Rafill (4-21), H Stirzaker (3-43) and D Stirzaker (2-41). Bagborough were steered to victory by opener T Eve (70 not out) and J Middleton (54) who shared an unbroken second-wicket stand of 137.

Bridgetown, in fifth spot, were 109-run winners away to Kilve who slumped to 86 all out in 20 overs when chasing a target of 196, no batter scoring more than 14 runs against the bowling of T Gliddon (6-24), T Sizer (2-25) and K Drummond (1-24). Dan Sizer top scored for Bridgetown with 50 while P Matravers made 37 and C Gliddon 28.

Roadwater kept up the pressure at the top of the second division with a stylish eight-wicket away success over Churchinford who scored 186 all out with James Allinson hitting 29, Connor Miles 28 and Tom Kornack 23 not out.

Mark Bishop (60) and Ross Cornish (92) encountered few problems in knocking off the runs, both being not out.

Lydeard St Lawrence piled up the runs in beating Cutcombe by 195 runs. The home side scored 281-9 in their 40 overs with M Hannaford hitting 142 with 19 fours and seven sixes while T Westcott made 52. H Pursey took 5-41 in nine productive overs.

Cutcombe never recovered from losing a wicket with only one run scored and were all out for 86 with N Vellacott taking 3-27 and C Vellacott 4-13. L Howe (41) was the only batter to get into double figures.

Stoke St Mary romped to a ten-wicket home win over Cannington who were bowled out for 101 with B Gray taking 4-2, I Tier 3-39 and N Flynn 2-22.
