WATCHET have clinched the first division title in the West Somerset Cricket League with an unbeaten record after beating second-placed Kilve away in their latest match. It ends a remarkable four-year spell in which Watchet have won four successive championships.
Put into bat by Kilve, Watchet scored 161-9 in their 40 overs with Alastair Harrison maintaining his good form with an innings of 63, which included nine fours and one six.
However, Watchet had to recover from 24-3 against the bowling of Jay Darrell who took 4-21 and Jim Taylor who finished with figures of 3-38.
Kilve also hit trouble early on, losing three wickets for only 12 runs before Cris Taylor brought a halt to a complete collapse with 40 and shared in a fourth-wicket stand of 52 with Darrell (9). Callum Knight snapped up 5-16 in his 8.5 overs, while Eben Harrding took 2-28 and Dom Bowden 2-11.
Meanwhile Morebath maintained sixth place after beating bottom side Winsford by five wickets. Winsford scored 144 all out with Dan Bowley top scoring with 35. Graham Turner took 3-31 and R Bowden 3-23.
Morebath reached their target in 27.1 overs with Carl Hooper hitting 34 not out, James Carey 28 and Dan Rottenbury 21, while Louis Roberts took 2-21.
Watchet end their season with a home game on Saturday, September 13, against last season’s winners Ashbrittle who require 13 points from the game to finish runners-up. Over Stowey are home to Morebath while Winsford entertain Brompton Ralph.
Brompton will join Winsford in the second division next summer while Crowcombe and Sampford Arundel are promoted.
