WATCHET made the trip to top of the table Westlands looking for a change in their fortunes but lost by 106 runs in their Division Two match.

The hosts batted first and made an aggressive start, but their batsmen were reeled back by openers Dom Bowden and Liam Woolgrove who took two wickets each in their opening spells.

With Westlands on 80-4 the game could have gone either way, but Watchet failed to make the most of the chances they created, with the ball often hanging in the air but falling into gaps.

Strong, Lovell and Robinson all bowled tightly in the middle overs and Connor Jeromson took three tidy catches, but partnerships of 44 for the seventh wicket and 43 for the ninth rubbed salt into the wound.

Watchet did manage to get full bowling bonus points but felt they should have been chasing a score nearer 160 rather than the 219 all out posted by the home side. Strong was the pick of the bowlers with 3-39.

Westlands showed why they have dominated the early part of the season by putting pressure on Watchet, with both openers bowling probing lines.

With the batting line-up short of confidence, they couldn’t change their fortunes as anything loose in the air seemed to find a fielder, and they were in trouble at 50-5.

Skipper Ryan Strong brought some respectability to the score with a patient 25 to take the side into three figures, but they were never able to make a game of it and were all out for 113 in the 39th over.
