MINEHEAD 2nd XI provided a dismal batting display as they crashed to a 150-run defeat away to Cheddar in Division Three of the Somerset Cricket League.

Chasing a target of 287, the seasiders were bowled out for a disappointing 136 in 28.4 overs.

Openers Andrew Stevens (12) and Oli Ahern (28) scored some useful early runs but after they were out Minehead struggled. Braden Taylor hit 28 and Sam Cobb 15 as Minehead ended well beaten. Rafal Fereday was the pick of the Cheddar bowling with 4-40 while Gareth Humberstone took 2-11

Earlier Cheddar, who chose to bat first, had piled up 286-7 in their 40 overs with Jack Butler being out three runs short of a century, while William Creaser scored 85 and John Tullet 21. Rob Spiers took 3-35.

Victory enabled Cheddar to pull off their first win of the season while Minehead suffered their first loss of the summer.

Meanwhile, South Petherton have a 13-point lead at the top of the table after they beat Street by 84 runs to record their third success in four matches.

Petherton scored 220-9 in their 40 overs with Joel Harris and Ian Masters both hitting half-centuries, while Street slumped to 136 all out with only James Maxfield (61) being able to handle the bowling of the home side. Dillon Difford (14) and Robert Samy (16) were the only other Street batsmen to get into double figures. Harris took 4-11 and Oliver Simpson-Barnes 3-18.

North Curry also gained an 111-run home win over Spaxton who slumped to 183 all out in reply to their opponents’ 294-6. Joshua Horler was the star for Curry, hitting 114 with 13 fours and three sixes.

Meanwhile, Minehead 2nd XI will be looking for a better performance this coming Saturday, May 31, when they play away to North Petherton.
