TOP OF the table Hemyock won their tenth match of the season when they beat Ashbrittle’s second string by six wickets in the third division of the West Somerset Cricket League.

It means they stay 85 points clear of second-placed Cannington who have two crucial games in hand.

Ashbrittle, batting first after being put into bat, were bowled out for 97 by the leaders with only Carl Westcott (47) and Michael Hill (19) getting into double figures against the bowling of Phillip Evans (4-27), Shish Kumar (3-18) and Yogarajah Pirapthan (1-11).

Hemyock openers Mark Salter (28) and Jalal Ahmed (29) put on 49 for the first wicket but then the home side lost four wickets before reaching their target.

Cannington won by five wickets against bottom side Stoodleigh who were bowled out for 207 with E Mock being in good form with 67 not out while A Vigus hit 32. N Eaton took 4-37 and D Hoveman 3-63.

A Caswell led the run-chase with 76, while V Guduru hit 41 and W Ogle 38. S Bowler took 2-20 and A Russell 2-21.

Cutcombe are only three points behind Cannington, having played the same number of games, after they beat Bishops Hull by four wickets. The Taunton side were shot out for 75 in less than 20 overs with Jack Hiett (26) being one of only three batters to score double figures. Elliott Binding snapped up 5-8 in 4.4 overs while Ben Pursey took 3-21.

Cutcombe did not have it all their own way when batting, with Mark Matravers steering them to victory with 44 not out. Frazer Wallace took 3-27 and Mark Hallas 2-35.

In the only other match played in the division, Minehead 3rd XI crushed Carhampton by 220 runs. James Griffiths (110) and Renjeesh Krishan (102 not out) were Minehead’s batting stars. Carhampton 67, Minehead 3rd XI 287-5.
