BISHOPS Hull are the early leaders of the third division in the West Somerset Cricket League after being awarded the points in their away match against Stoodleigh.

The Taunton side received 35 points and now have a six-point lead over second-placed Cutcombe who won a low scoring home match against Cannington.

Cutcombe were bowled out for 103 with opener Ned Binding being their top scorer with 30 while Dave Hoveman took 5-35 and Sibin Abraham 4-5.

Cannington found scoring equally as difficult and were all out for 83 with Daryl Lush knocking 30. James Gregory took 3-22 and Ben Pursey 3-26.

Minehead 3rd XI went down by 81 runs away to Hemyock who made 205-9 in their 40 overs with opener Mark Slater scoring 51 and Louis Allen 30. The seasiders were all out for 124 with Vishnu Kombath top scoring with 52. Shish Kumar was the star bowler for the Devon side with 7-34.

Meanwhile, Fitzhead won their first match of the season in Division Four - they share top spot with Roadwater on 70 points - after they beat Wiveliscombe 2nd XI by 69 runs away.

Fitzhead made 226-6 in their 40 overs with I Oliver hitting 70, with ten fours, and G Furber 51. There were two wickets each for J Fyfe and M Clapman.

Despite a promising start, Wiveliscombe were bowled out for 157 with J Fyfe (47) and J Warren (24) being their leading batters. G Alford took 4-11, while R Mullins and J Turner took two wickets apiece.

In the only other match played in the fourth division, Buckland St Mary and Bishopswood romped to a nine-wicket win over Spaxton who were dismissed for 128.

Unfortunately, the other two matches in the division were conceded. Roadwater were awarded the points against Brompton Ralph while Stoke St Mary received the points against East Huntspill.
