WIVELISCOMBE gained their first win of the season in Division Three of the Somerset Cricket League when they beat Chard 2nd XI by five runs.
Put into bat first, Wiveliscombe scored 217-8 in their 40 overs. Star of their innings was Connor Ashworth who hit 134, slamming 17 fours and five sixes. Joe Welch made 37 and James Heywood 16.
Brian Thomson led the run-chase for the South Somerset outfit, scoring 71, his innings containing eight fours, as Chard fell just short, scoring 212 all out in 39.5 overs. Henry Green was run out having made 30 while Yousiah Shazad scored 25. Johnny Farrant was the main wicket-taker for Wiveliscombe with 3-25 in five overs.
Victory enabled Wiveliscombe to move up to sixth in the table, while Chard have now lost their opening three matches and are bottom.
Meanwhile, Wiveliscombe will be looking for back to back wins when they play at home to Cheddar on Saturday, May 31.
