In loose terms, a country park is an area of land or water with a minimum size of 25 acres offering recreational facilities to the public.
Yeovil Country Park comprises 127 acres, and South Somerset District Council has worked with volunteers and local organisations to see the project through.
MP David Laws (pictured) performed the opening, saying: "I'm delighted to join local councillors to open the park.
"Yeovil Town Council and South Somerset District Council have put a lot of work into linking up these green spaces. I'm sure residents will enjoy the opportunities it opens up for years to come."
