A six-day programme of steam train trips between Yeovil and Southampton has been postponed until April.
It was in last week's issue that we told you about the upcoming trips with the Cathedrals Express, scheduled between February 11th and 16th, but organisers have since had a change of heart.
The main reason behind the decision is the threat of further strike action by staff on South West Trains (SWT).
Strike action in itself would not have affected the running of the Cathedral Express but organisers feared that those needing SWT in order to join the Cathedral Express could experience problems.
Another reason is the fact that one steam engine must undergo repairs, which would have meant additional costs for bringing in a back-up engine from elsewhere.
A spokesperson for Steam Dreams said: "By April, SWT is confident that even if the RMT action is still on-going, it will have minimal effect on their services. Additionally, both engines should be available and an added benefit will be that the weather should be better and with the clocks going forward, the evening runs to Yeovil will be in daylight."
Those already having booked tickets for next week's trips can either transfer to the April run or have a refund. Details are available from Steam Dream on 01483 209888.
