STAFF and residents at Wyndham House invited family, friends and the community to join them for a Memory Walk, to raise awareness of dementia and funds for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Accompanied by a few four-legged friends, participants walked from Wyndham House care home in Martlet Road, Minehead, to Blue Anchor and back – roughly ten miles.

The walk on August 22 was an opportunity to take in the sights from the local area and reminisce together as they shared stories.

The Minehead care home staff and residents are always looking for new ways to fundraise support both national and local causes.

Alongside their Memory Walk, Wyndham House is also donating to the Alzheimer’s Society 50 per cent of funds from its raffle to buy new plants for the garden at the care home to keep it looking colourful.

Manager Sharon Watts said: “Our Memory Walk was organised by Matthew, night supervisor at Wyndham House. He and all of us here at Wyndham House are passionate about raising dementia awareness both locally and nationally. Thank you to everyone that walked with us and donated funds.”

Wyndham House is dementia-friendly care home and works closely with the Minehead Dementia Action Alliance.

The Alzheimer’s Society currently states that 220,000 loved ones – more than six times the population of West Somerset – develop dementia each year.
