AN aluminium profile of a World War One soldier was on display for the first time at the annual barbecue of the Quantock Branch of the Royal British Legion last Saturday (August 4).

Around 80 people attended the barbecue and were able to view the full-size figure, standing with rifle and backpack, which was recently bought by the branch from the national Royal British Legion (RBL).

Proceeds from sales of the figure around the country, will be used to support a number of armed forces charities.

The figure is due to stand close to Bicknoller Church entrance gates during part of October and November, including Remembrance Sunday.

It was dedicated at the annual barbecue by the Rev Ben Flenley, the branch padre, and also present were Robert McDonald, chairman of the Somerset RBL, Graham High, president of the Quantock branch, and Lee Funnell, chairman of the Quantock branch.
