MORE than £9,000 was raised from the annual Roadwater Fete to help run the village hall and recreation ground.

Fine weather blessed the event and allowed everybody to enjoy the fun, entertainment, food, and drink in the picturesque valley setting.

West Somerset Brass Band and Brompton Regis Morris provided music and dancing for the traditional village fete, which was attended by many local residents and holidaymakers visiting from afar.

Tea room ladies provided an array of cakes and savouries and along with the bar, barbecue, and ice creams, did a roaring trade.

The plant stall was laden with flowers, greenery, and vegetable plants, and other stalls and attractions included skittles, egg throwing, face painting, Hayley’s clothes, coconut shy, greasy pole, Punch and Judy, spinning jenny, children’s games, duck race, boozy raffle, bottle tombola, and a wheelbarrow raffle.

Roadwater’s sewing and knitting craft group, Needles and Pins, exhibited their work, and Williton fire crews made their annual appearance.

An ever-popular produce show provided items to go under the ‘hammer’ for local auctioneer Nigel McBrayne, and in total the day raised £9,168, which will help toward a new village hall roof and buying equipment, as well as keeping down its hire charges.
