A YOUNG woman died in a late-night accident on the A358 near Bishops Lydeard last Thursday.

Lorraine Bussey, 23, died after she was in collision with a Peugeot 807 as she walked in the A358 at the junction with Station Road, Bishops Lydeard.

Police said she received treatment at the scene of the accident but died shortly afterwards.

Her devastated family released a statement through the police on Monday and also requested to be left to grieve in peace.

The statement said: "Lorraine, we all miss you dearly rest in peace my love.

"The world will not be the same without you. Lots of love from mum, daughter, family and friends."

An inquest into her death was opened and adjourned on Monday. The cause of death was given as multiple injuries.

The collision happened at 10.40pm on an unlit section of the Bishops Lydeard bypass.

Police said the Peugeot had been travelling from the Taunton direction and appealed for witnesses to come forward.

An Avon and Somerset Constabulary spokesman said: "The woman was reported to be walking in the A358 near to its junction with Station Road when she was in collision with the Peugeot 807.

"Collision investigators believe she was walking in the unlit section of road, although there was an illuminated underpass nearby.

"They are keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the area at the time who many be able to help their investigations.

"Anyone who was in the Station Road area at the time of the incident should contact the collision investigation unit on the force non emergency number 101."
