VISITOR numbers were up at this year's Williton Fete and Craft and Produce Show - although organisers would have liked to have seen more entries across the board.

Despite the wet weekend weather, hundreds went along to the Memorial Ground to enjoy the stalls, entertainment and award-winning produce and crafts.

Although Watchet failed to put up a tug o' war team as had been hoped, members of the crowd stepped into the breach and the competition went ahead as planned.

There was also a falconry display, children's fancy dress competition, fun races and a host of side stalls as well as a beer tent and a hog roast.

In the craft and produce show only five of the seven available cups were presented, with the best of show shield going to Mrs C Witcher.

There were sections for baking, preserves, children's entries, fruit and vegetables, flowers, photography and crafts.

Fete organiser Ian Aldridge said the fete and show had raised £1,500 for the village hall and thanked everyone for their support.

He said: "I must thank the local businesses, as well as some from further afield, who supported us - they really came up trumps.

"We would have liked to have seen more entries, but we had more people visiting us this year and the event was certainly a success."

A live band and disco rounded off the day's activities.
