I enjoy the doubtful pleasure of living on the eastern edge of Washford village on the A39.
n order to expose the “Welcome to Washford” and 30mph restriction signs which were completely hidden in ground based weed 100 yards from my home.
I did this in the misguided hope that it might stimulate drivers into responding to the speed restriction sign.
Sadly, unless there is a blockage in the village inducing a tailback of vehicles, many drivers are oblivious to the speed restriction, whilst others seem to consider 30mph as a minimum requirement!
Drivers leaving the village travelling east experience no such impediments to breaking the law.
There are no footpaths for pedestrian use and emerging from my drive directly on to the road in a car is frequently time consuming and occasionally hazardous.
My problem is where to turn for support and who is willing or able to help resolve it.
I am aware that police resources are overstretched and speed cameras are eyesores in such areas. I am reluctant to consider direct action as a means of generating a solution.
