I read with interest about the restoration of the weathervane on the Market House Museum in Watchet (Free Press November 8).

Towards the end of last year, the weathervane on top of the copper rotunda above the Metropole Hotel in Minehead disappeared.

This was a landmark displayed on photos of the town since the 19th century and must be sadly missed by many.

Despite several enquiries, I have failed to find out what happened to this weathervane and if it is going to be repaired or replaced.

Was it blown down in a storm, taken down for health and safety reasons or removed for cost implications?

It seems a great shame that this dominant and historical feature of the town may be lost for ever. Can anyone shed some light on the subject?
