SIR — How I agree with the letter from Heather Tregalen and her comments about the shocking pay and display charges for cars (Your Letters June 29).

I have recently retired and moved to this lovely area with my wife. Now that we have most days to get out and about we are hit much more with these charges than when I was working and can afford it less!

How about a 'Pensioner Pass' for cars so we can at least visit locally without paying pounds a week to park in places such as Minehead, or do we clog up their side-streets as I've been told is done by others?

Does the local council want us to do all our shopping in supermarkets with their free parking and let all the smaller traders suffer from lack of trade?

Now we've been told to buy our own bin bags, but that's another hit in the pocket.
