SIR — At approximately 10.30pm on Thursday April 23, our next door neighbour rang our door bell and excitedly indicated for us to come outside.

We did and saw what was exciting her - high in the sky travelling from east to west was a large fire ball.

It was moving far quicker than the aircraft we see coming over, and it stayed in sight for about a minute then disappeared as if extinguished.

Our neighbour said that when she first saw it, it was much larger.

We feel that it was probably a satellite or a meteorite burning through the atmosphere (or could it have been something more interesting?).

We suggest that it was heading over the Devon North coast, so if falling would have landed in the sea.

We  are wondering if anybody else saw it and if so, what are their thoughts on the sighting.
