A MEETING called between taxi drivers, the district council and other official bodies has resulted in the inauguration of West Somerset Taxi and Private Hire Association - WSTPHA.

The meeting took place on June 18 and was well attended by both owners and drivers.

It was facilitated by West Somerset District Council and chaired by Mike Clothier, chairman of the local branch of FSB.

Guest speaker was Bryan Roland, the General Secretary of the National Private Hire and Taxi Association, who travelled from Bury, Lancashire to address the meeting. He was accompanied by his assistant, Donna Short

The outcome of the meeting was the formation of the association WSTPHA with four members being elected to a steering committee. They are, Mike Clothier, Frank Darrell, Denise Darrell, who was also elected secretary, and Lesley Foster.

The association aims to hold its first meeting towards the end of July when membership forms will be available. All taxi and private hire licence holders are invited to attend.
