The West Somerset Railway hosted the Royal Train for an overnight stay by the Queen ahead of her visit to Somerset last Thursday.

Arriving in the early hours of Thursday morning after leaving London Euston station late the previous evening, the train was taken onto the WSR metals from the main line connection.

It was then stabled securely on its tracks close to the 40 Commando base at Norton Manor Camp.

The royal visitor then left from the junction at Norton Fitzwarren around 9.30am for the short journey to Castle Cary station.

It was the third time the Minehead branch has seen royal visitors stay overnight on the line - the Duke of Edinburgh visited in 2002 for the 50th anniversary of the Lynton and Lynmouth Flood Disaster, and King George VI also stayed near Norton Fitzwarren during World War Two.

The visit came just two days before WSR steam trains starting running again at the weekend after their enforced three-month break.
