THERE was singing in the rain at Nettlecombe Church Fete on Saturday (August 29) after weeks of hot, dry weather.

But, nothing dampened the spirit of the popular event which raised £2,800 to support the parish church of St Mary the Virgin and offered fun for all the family.

A spokesperson for the organisers said: “Thank you so much to all our helpers and everybody who came out in the rain to support our biggest fund-raiser of the year.”

The event had something for everybody, from Malcolm the Magician and Treasure Island for younger visitors, to splat-the-rat, welly throwing, cream teas, home-made cakes, Pimms, a cider bar, a raffle, live music, and a tombola.

Other attractions included stalls selling bric-a-brac, clothes, books, plants, and home-made jams.
