YOUNG mothers concerned about how much their babies weigh will have a weight taken off their minds next time they visit the West Somerset Home-Start children’s centre, in Alcombe, Minehead.
For the charity, which provides support for young families, now has a brand-new set of state-of-the-art baby scales, thanks to UK digital weighing scales manufacturer Marsden.
A Home-Start spokesperson said: “Many of our families have mentioned that, as they attend various groups and sessions with us, having access to baby scales would be a valuable resource and so helpful to them.
“We are dedicated to continuously enhancing the support we offer and ensuring that our environment remains welcoming and convenient for all families.

“This contribution will make a real difference in our community and we truly appreciate the Marsden Group’s kindness and generosity.
“We are open Monday to Friday during office hours and everybody is very welcome to come in and use the scales whenever they are needed.”
A Marsden spokesperson said: “We are absolutely delighted to support Home Start West Somerset and the work they do for families in the community.
“Knowing that the baby scales will make a real difference to parents and carers is exactly why we are so pleased to help.
“We thank you for all that you do to create such a supportive, welcoming environment and it is an honour to play a small part in that.”

Home-Start is part of a national charity network but must provide all its own fund-raising.
It works with families with young children who are experiencing problems and offers support and practical help.
Trained volunteers also visit families at home for two to three hours a week and recently West Somerset MP Rachael Gilmour visited the centre and pledged to try to secure more external funding.
