DUNSTER'S memorial hall was transformed by more than 300 exhibits ranging from flowers and fruit to vegetables and arts and crafts for the village's annual flower show last Saturday. The event, staged by the horticultural society, represented a wealth of green fingered talent in colour and variety, despite the difficult growing conditions of the previous week. Organisers reported fewer entries overall in the homecraft section, but there was good natured rivalry in the new men's fruit cake class, which attracted nine entries. Arts and crafts had a section with its own trophy for the first time this year, while photographic classes, relatively new to the show, proved to be a popular addition, drawing over 40 entries. Once again the children's artistic skills were much admired and the school entry produced some eye- catching posters. Show chairman Beryl Priddle praised her hardworking committee for their contributions in making the event such a success and thanked their families for the help and support they gave both before and during show day. Society president Julian Luttrell interrupted a family holiday to officiate at the prizegiving and even lent a hand with the clean-up operation after the trophies had been awarded and the exhibits taken home. "Everyone agreed it had been a tiring but worthwhile and enjoyable day," said a spokesman for the organisers. Show secretary Kath Moon is pictured (left) with Mrs Priddle. Photo: Steve Guscott.
