A WEAKENED Kilve side failed to compete with high flying Barrington on Saturday.
After losing the toss Kilve were asked to bat on a damp wicket and were soon struggling with openers Shaun Mitchell and Stuart Lloyd both caught off the seam bowling of Alan Wellman with just 18 runs on the board.
Dave Cobb established himself and scored well but the other Kilve batsmen continued to get out just as they had appeared to settle. Captain Glen Manchip (12), John Bolt (10) and Phil Sylvester (15) were all guilty of getting out after starting well, to leave Kilve on 105-5 after 32 overs.
Redwood mopped up the Kilve tail-end and claimed the wicket of Dave Cobb who was by far Kilve's most successful batsman with 48 runs, and the innings closed when they were all out for a disappointing 125 in the 40th over.
Redwood had Barrington's best bowling figures of 4-6 whilst Alan wellman also bowled well with 3-29.
In reply, Barrington had few problems in reaching the required target.
Kilve's only success with the ball was to claim the wicket of Graham Darby for six when he was stumped by keeper Lloyd off the spin bowling of Manchip.
Trevor Pitman then joined Gary French to form an 118 run partnership. They both batted positively and scored quickly to reach their target in only the 26th over.
French demonstrated Barrington's dominance by hitting the winning runs with a six and close the innings on 131-1 and give Barrington an emphatic victory.
French finished with 55 no and Pitman 59 no.
Kilve: 125 (D Cobb 48, P Sylvester 15, S Redwood 4-6, A Wellman 3-29).
Barrington: 131-1 (T Pitman 59 no, G French 55 no).
