SIR — Recently we spent five days in Minehead. Never having visited before, my husband and I found the place and the people wonderful.

We stayed at the Beach Hotel, where we found the staff really friendly and the food was excellent.

We enjoyed the West Somerset Steam experience - delightful, as were the residents who worked there.

The walk to the harbour and lifeboat station was pleasant and peaceful.

We particularly noted the cleanliness of the streets and promenade areas, witnessing the early rising workmen, emptying bins, washing and cleaning streets, painting lamp posts.

The car drivers too were most courteous, some of whom slowed down or stopped and signalled to us to cross the roads.

Thank you to all of Minehead and we will be certain to return and experience the wonderful atmosphere again.
