Day trippers and families enjoying the last weeks of summer before the schools go back may have gone home, but what a show Minehead and its various organisations, public, commercial and voluntary, have put on for them this summer.

Hundreds arriving on the popular heritage trains or those coming by car have been greeted by fantastic floral arrangements inside and outside the railway station and up The Parade, with its cheery bunting and pavement cafes.

The re-development of the seafront, besides established attractions such as clock golf and amusement arcades, has brought new appropriate, attractive and enjoyable facilities for many.

The sands were busy. The promenade shelters no longer look semi-derelict. The parks teams of staff and volunteers with their displays in Blenheim Gardens and elsewhere have excelled themselves, no doubt also much enjoyed by those attending the entertainments, stalls and charity stands on Bank Holiday Monday.

A steam carriage was carrying visitors around the town, free of charge.

The volunteers at the Regal, coping with the near disaster of a leaking roof, put on an excellent summer show again.

Further afield, the staff and volunteers at Dunster Castle have continued to provide a full day out in delightful surroundings and those motoring onto Exmoor have no doubt come away enchanted.

Hopefully the word will have gone around that there is no need to drive down to Devon and Cornwall when Minehead and its surrounds (lets not forget Watchet with its own charm and attractions) have got so much to offer.

Well done all who contributed!
