SIR — In the Free Press of June 24 you mention a report from West Somerset District Council that shows a marked drop in attendances at Aquasplash swimming pool. The drop is scarcely surprising in view of the fact that the wave machine and slide, both hugely popular, particularly with summer visitors, are no longer operating. Why were these withdrawn? Taken with the astonishing information that no money had been set aside for three years for maintenance at Aquasplash, one can only take this as clear evidence that the ruling group on the council made a deliberate decision to allow Aquasplash to "wither on the vine". But when was this decision taken and by whom? There has been no public statement nor were the public consulted. This is a matter that required a public response in your columns from the leader of the governing group on West Somerset District Council so that responsibility can be laid where it belongs.
