WATCHET’S age-old ale-tasting ceremony took place last Sunday (April 22) when members of the Court Leet visited the town’s inns and taverns to put their beverages through the tasting-test.
Court Leet Bailiff Nigel Swinburne and Jurors John Stone and Robert Dibble, accompanied by Town Crier David Milton, visited Watchet’s five hostelries to sample their ale.
The West Somerset Hotel, the Bell Inn, Pebbles Tavern, the London Inn and the Star Inn were all awarded certificates declaring their ale to be of the highest quality and fit for consumption.
Before the ceremony, Graham Coggins presented the Court Leet with pair of engraved tankards which will now be used by the jurors for future ale tastings.
